My Detailed Experience at Pulse Super Speciality Hospital - A Candid Review of My Medical Journey
I visited Pulse Super Speciality Hospital due to severe lower abdominal pain. This review is a transparent account of my experience--including the good, the bad, and the unacceptable--so others can make informed decisions about their healthcare.
1. Diagnosis & Appendectomy
I was diagnosed with sub-acute appendicitis after an ultrasound.
Consulted Dr. Mayank Shekhar Sharma
(M.B.B.S, M.S - General Surgery, M.Ch - Gastrointestinal Surgery)
He thoroughly explained the condition and recommended an appendectomy.
The surgery was performed successfully, and I'm truly grateful for Dr. Mayank's calm, competent, and reassuring approach.
2. Anesthesia -
The anesthesia during surgery was administered by Dr. Asif Khan
As I was under full anesthesia, I don't recall much--but I do remember going under calmly and waking up post-surgery without any complications.
Thanks to, Dr. Asif, for your important role in my safe procedure.
3. Misconduct by a Male Nurse
While I was recovering under anesthesia, a male nurse on duty behaved arrogantly and loudly--causing a headache while I was still semi-conscious.
He later misbehaved with my mother and brother as well, which was deeply unprofessional and stressful for my family.
4. Insurance & Bribe Experience
My treatment was covered under ICICI Lombard Health Insurance.
TPA agents Suraj and Kiran were extremely helpful in managing the cashless claim.
However, the insurance survey agent demanded 2000 as a bribe to approve the claim.
When we refused, he threatened to decline it, and we eventually had to pay 1000 due to financial pressure.
This was a deeply disheartening and unethical experience that should be investigated by the hospital and insurer.
5. Diagnostic Issues - A Warning
Both ultrasounds were performed by Dr. Praveen Kumar
(M.B.B.S, D.M.R.D - Radiology)
In the first USG, I specifically asked about my kidneys. He said they were "completely fine."
After the surgery, in the second USG, he suddenly reported a 5 mm kidney stone.
When I questioned the inconsistency, he replied:
"I don't know. I'm just telling you what I see now."
His unprofessional, dismissive, and rude attitude only increased my anxiety. This careless approach to diagnosis is unacceptable.
6. CT Scan & Kidney Stone Clarification
To be sure about the diagnosis, Dr. Mayank Shekhar Sharma advised a CT scan.
The scan revealed that no kidney stone was present.
I later consulted Dr. Prem Kumar
(M.B.B.S, M.S, DNB-General Surgery, DNB-Urology & Gen Surgery)
He confirmed that the CT scan was not necessary and that the second ultrasound result was likely inaccurate.
This back-and-forth in diagnosis left me mentally stressed, and I've now decided to consult at a higher-specialty hospital in Bangalore for a clearer evaluation.
7. Reception Staff - Special Thanks
A huge shoutout to Ms. Gurleen Kaur at the reception.
She helped me fix appointments, answered all my calls, and offered compassionate, beyond-the-call-of-duty support throughout my stay.
8. Outstanding Nursing Staff
Despite everything, the nursing team made a tremendous positive impact:
Sister Rozenah (Head Nurse) - professional, kind, and responsible.
Sister Nirupamma, a sister from emergency, and the male staff member who cleaned me at 4 AM - all treated me with care and respect.
I am also thankful to the many other nurses whose names I sadly can't remember.
Your kindness and effort truly mattered, and I feel deeply sorry for not being able to name each one of you.
Conclusion - A Mixed but Eye-Opening Experience
What Went Well:
Skilled doctors: Dr. Mayank Shekhar, Dr. Prem Kumar, Dr. Asif Khan
Excellent TPA support
Compassionate and committed nursing team
Exceptionally helpful front-desk support (Ms. Gurleen Kaur)
What Was Disappointing:
Bribe demand from insurance surveyor
Rude, arrogant behavior by a male nurse
Poor, inconsistent diagnosis by Dr praveen
Happy to share my review, my patient was admitted under Dr. Mayank because of g.b stone , excellent treatment done by him and all the staffs are very supporting, will definitely recommend this hospital
My experience at the hospital, where the patient was admitted on 21st June at 2:00 PM in the emergency, was deeply unsatisfactory and distressing.
The patient was brought in an unconscious state, yet the cause was not identified. Though several tests were prescribed, they were not conducted until the next morning, despite repeated requests to the hospital authorities. This delay was highly irresponsible, especially given the patient's condition.
On the second day, the patient's blood sugar levels spiked in the evening. Despite us clearly informing the medical staff that insulin does not suit the patient, it was still administered on a senior doctor's instruction, leading to a further deterioration in her condition.
The next evening, the sugar monitoring device gave an incorrect reading, and once again, the staff considered giving insulin unnecessarily based on that faulty reading which was not given as we cross checked with our personal device.
The concerned doctor was extremely rude, arrogant, and uncooperative, refusing to engage with us properly or address our concerns. The hospital management also displayed a high level of negligence and ignorance, showing little regard for patient welfare.
By the fourth day, seeing no improvement and fearing for the patient's safety, we as a family decided to discharge the patient.
Since then, The patient has been recovering well at home -- a clear indication that her condition had been worsened due to the overmedication and mismanagement at the hospital.
What's worse, the doctor insisted on shifting the patient to the ICU, which we believe was an unjustified recommendation made solely to inflate the bill.
This experience has left us shaken and disappointed. The hospital must seriously reflect on its approach to emergency care, patient safety, and ethical practices. Such medical negligence and rude behavior from professionals are completely unacceptable.
I was admitted to the hospital as per the recommendation of Dr. Awinash Kumar (Gastroenterologist).
Hospital staff are very cooperative and available 24*7. Polite attitude, good cleanliness, 10 on 10 food ( for patient and attender as well) .
Only thing we had to struggle with, was claiming health insurance; first the TPA was not cooperating but at last we got our initial claim with the effort of Mr. Suraj Thapa. If you are going without the knowledge to claim an insurance it's gonna be difficult for you. Hospital is little expensive so, one should first ask about all the charges and then do whatever suit them.
Overall,
Dietician was knowledgeable and helpful.
Ms. Muskan( the coordinator) was also very polite and helpful.
Rest of the doctors who visited me were very polite as well.
Special thanks to all the nurses and cleaning staff.
