I recently visited U.N. Mehta Cardiology Department and would like to share my experience honestly.
The Positive: The doctors and medical staff are excellent - truly dedicated and knowledgeable. Their expertise in cardiac care is commendable and gives patients the confidence they are in safe hands.
Areas of Concern: Unfortunately, the hospital's cleanliness and maintenance need serious improvement. I noticed open dustbins attracting flies and bees, broken benches, and red stains from chewing tobacco products (Vimal masala) on walls and corners - which is not just unhygienic but reflects a lack of civil responsibility from visitors and poor enforcement from hospital authorities.
Also, a note on the security and social staff - some of them seem to behave as if they own the place. Their rude attitude does not reflect the dignity expected in a healthcare environment where compassion and service should be a priority.
Suggestion: As a taxpayer and citizen, I strongly believe that while the public must behave responsibly, the hospital must ensure regular cleaning, enforce hygiene rules strictly, and train support staff to be respectful. After all, good treatment should be matched with good service and a clean, welcoming environment.
Do not rely on the ratings, as they are often posted by hospital staff using the mobile phones of the patients' relatives upon admission. The real treatment begins only after that initial stage. This was my experience as well. I lost my family member following a heart valve operation and 10 days in the ICU. During those 10 days, my mother underwent three surgeries. Despite having a planned surgery, I lost her, which gives you an idea of the kind of heart surgery performed. Additionally, four other patients lost their lives during that same period, as I later found out. All patients here are admitted under the Ayushman card.
My mother's fingerprint wasn't being recognized for the Ayushman card, even though it was active. I contacted the hospital RMO for help, and they told me to either get a nearby post office person with a biometric kit to redo the KYC, or discharge and re-admit the patient after doing the KYC again. They didn't have a retina scan or OTP system to admit patients under the Ayushman card. After three days of trying, I decided to pay for the operation in cash. However, they insisted on using the Ayushman card and sent someone for a last attempt at fingerprint verification. Eventually, her fingerprint was recognized, and the case was registered under the Ayushman card.
The doctor recommended CABG and two valve replacements for her. However, after the surgery, only the CABG was done, and the valves were repaired instead of being replaced. When I inquired, they explained that her heart was too weak for valve replacement. My mom was admitted on December 5th and operated on December 13th. So, in those 7 days, they couldn't analyze her heart condition well enough to determine if valve replacement was possible?
Also entire hospital has khatmal(bed bugs) problem.
Even after the surgery, her stitches were opened twice more during the 10 days she was in the ICU. I urge you to think carefully before bringing your family member to this hospital for heart surgery.
u n mehta is located near ahmdedabad civil hospital. The hospital is very clean & plenty pf parking space. The management is also good.
BUT THE FECILITY OF THE WHEELCHAIR IS TOOOOOO POOR .
The security gard who's manage the Wheelchair section, behavos too rudely & only usuing their mobile phones & the patient is standing near him.
Too Much poor fecility in wheelchair section.
Everything is fine, the doctors and nursing staff are very good, but most of the security staff behave rudely. Also, there are a lot of bedbugs (called makad in Gujarati) in the patient wards and waiting rooms, making it difficult to sit or sleep anywhere. Additionally, only 1 or 2 relatives per patient are allowed inside the hospital, which is quite unfair. When patients need food, medicines, or any other items from outside, the presence of relatives becomes necessary. I believe there should be a provision for at least 2 passes per patient."
Today 29/4/2025. I am with patient in cardiac room 3 B building , 2nd floor.
There are bed bugs sucking our blood, in this world class hospital. When I complained about the issue the control room person tell me the problem will be there and nursing staff also admit that there are bed bugs, so you have to adjust
How a person can sleep having angiography with bed bugs sucking blood whole night. And there is nobody to resolve the issue.
0 star deserving hospital
Ok ok hospital, management is totally rude, if you admitted to this hospital that is your problem, their behavior is like you are criminal for break the rule, security's attitude like they are doctor of this hospital, totally rude hospital, waiting area is dirty.
My feedback for this hospital :
Please do polite behavior to the patient relative
They don't like to come hospital but they have reason for treatment
Keep the waiting area clean because this is hospital.
Atleast allow 2 relative for one patient
World class infrastructure with best faculty of doctors...very neat and clean hospital...also supports all medical schemes offered by central and state governments. Free food facilities provided by volunteers groups for needy people..Best hospital management...all medical staff including doctors..nurses and assistant are very humble and cooperative...Security, cleaning and other staff also very supportive...People can avail the treatment at a very nominal cost and easily...There are different departments for each like cardiology, physiotherapy, ENT and much more..
